Vinyl Laurate is a vinyl ester of straight chain Lauric acid. It is a clear colorless liquid, not miscible with water with oily odour.
APPLICATIONS OF VINYL LAURATE
Vinyl Laurate is used as one of the co-monomer along with other monomers to obtain Polymers that have specific properties. Co-polymers of vinyl acetate with vinyl laurate (containing 20 to 60% w/w vinyl laurate) are commercially available. They find wide usages in the following segments:
• Vinyl Laurate/Vinyl Chloride/Ethylene based polymer is used as Adhesive and base coat with hydrophobicity, as Tile Adhesives, all kinds of renders where hydrophobic behavior is needed, grouts and powder paints.
• Vinyl Laurate/Vinyl Chloride/Ethylene based polymer is also used in exterior insulation and finish systems, emulsion plasters, silicon resin plasters, cementations construction adhesive, mortars etc.
• Vinyl Acetate/Vinyl Laurate based polymer is also used importantly as a raw material for gum base.
• Vinyl Acetate/Vinyl Laurate/Ethyl Acetate based polymer is used as a raw material for packaging coatings.
• Vinyl Acetate/Vinyl Laurate based co-polymer lattices for emulsion paints and decorative plasters.
• Solution polymers for various applications, including automotive and industrial coatings and cosmetics.
